Studying the B.A. American Studies in Frankfurt is a journey to academic and intellectual independence. We have built the program to make your progressions transparent, with many options for how to pursue your interests and clear goals at every step.
The B.A. in American Studies usually takes six semesters to complete. All classes are taught in English, so you’ll be using and improving your English from day one. You start with introductory courses in literary studies, cultural studies, and American history, plus some basic training in how to study and work academically. These classes help you discover what you enjoy most and where your strengths lie. After that, you pick your two favorite areas out of our three specializations—literature, culture, and history—and explore them in-depth in research seminars on specific topics. In your final semester, you work on your own research project in a Bachelor’s thesis, supported by research colloquia where you discuss your ideas and get feedback.
